The picture on the left was taken four years ago today. We were on our way to the airport, with a one-way ticket overseas and only the belongings in our carry-on bags to our name.
As we waited for our flight, I wrote the following words in my journal, “The journey starts now and uncertainty is my new travel companion. It was there all along, but I feared its potential. Now its energy propels me into the unknown with an insatiable desire to keep going, seeing, doing, and being.”
We spent the past month of August off-line to reflect as a family. We snapped the photo on the right yesterday, on our four year anniversary of our wandering ways. We find time and time again when we intentionally pause, the floodgates open. The experience of the past four years has finally rendered me speechless as I work to make sense of the sheer wonder of our world and what it has revealed to us and within us.
So much has happened since we left in 2013, but the essence of our journey has remained the same. We are still entirely captivated by this thing called life. We appreciate every day we are given with an evolving sense of vigor with each new landscape that beckons us onward. We are no longer scared of uncertainty because everything makes sense eventually, as long as we are together. To quote one of the many remarkable teachers we have met on this journey, “What next now?”
Below is the very first blog we posted: Are you Tired or Inspired?
We live on a beautiful island surrounded by an azure sound near an Emerald City and we are living happily ever after. We are leaving all of it not because we are discontent, but because we are overwhelmingly captivated.
We want to spend more time together in the world with our children while they will have us. We are two teachers who want, more than anything, to learn what our children have to teach us.
We are not seeking greener pastures and bowls full of cherries. Our town is abundant in both.
We are not seeking cultural festivals and new landscapes to challenge us. We have beach walks and farm stands that have unearthed treasures beneath our feet.
We are leaving because we are eager! We are leaving our beautiful Island and our beautiful home. We are selling all of our beautiful stuff and we are setting out to see the world together.
We are not tired of our life. We are inspired by our life. We hope you enjoy coming on this journey with us, as it is not about travel, it is about growth, and that is what unites us all.
We do not know where this journey will take us. We are leaving all we know and stepping into uncertainty. We are so excited to see what new lands await us, not because they are better or different from what we have, but because Teetering on the edge of comfortable brings us closer to ourselves and each other.
